Delhi University Students' Union Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad and called for a bandh THE second in less than a month, after nearly 80 students were arrested at Civil Lines police station following an anti- North Campus in the FYUP Wednesday.
Nearly 2,000 students, led by President Dusu Aman Awana Secretary Dusu Raju Rawat and ABVP national secretary Rohit Chahal , demonstrated in front of the Faculty of Arts, before walking to the Vice-Regal Lodge . Students chanted slogans and burnt effigies as the Vice-Chancellor and the South Campus Director, Umesh Rai.
Several barricades were set up near the office of the VC and additional police personnel have been deployed. As students have violated the first barricade , police used lathicharge and used watercannons to push the demonstrators back. "The AU officials have remained within the same lathicharged Police beat students and even students ," said Awana . After lathicharge the protesters were taken to Civil Lines police station, where they were released around 15:30 .
Dusu and ABVP have jointly called for a boycott of all colleges AU Thursday. Student groups have also called for a boycott of annual fest of the university, " Antardhvani " starting February 14 .
" The leaders of the AU students are avoiding ... They arbitrarily implement reforms without consulting the students or teachers and have handled the statutory bodies of the university. We will not rest until FYUP is canceled , "said Rohit Chahal .
